Meet Fr. Gus Christo

The Very Reverend Gus George Christo, BA, MA, PhD, DD, is an Orthodox Christian clergyman, theologian, scholar, educator, and author whose lifelong dedication to the Church, academia, and public service has earned him international recognition. He currently serves as Mitered Protopresbyter of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. 

Pursuing advanced theological studies at the University of Durham in England, Father Christo earned a Master of Arts in Theology with a thesis entitled The Notions of Martyrdom According to St. John Chrysostom.  He later completed his doctoral dissertation, The Church’s Identity Established Through Images According to St. John Chrysostom, and was awarded the PhD in Theology. Continuing his scholarly contributions, he submitted the published work Bishops as Successors to the Apostles According to John Chrysostom: Ecclesiastical Authority in the Early Church and earned the higher doctorate of Doctor of Divinity (DD) from the University of Durham.

Father Christo resides in Wilmington, Delaware, where he continues his pastoral, academic, and literary work, and is Professor of Theology at St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary in Somerset, New Jersey.  In addition to his ecclesiastical ministry, he serves as Manager of Chaplaincy Services for the Delaware Department of Correction.
